He and his wife went over to Germany in August 1965 to pick it up. After about a week delay due to the summer holiday, in which they were given a brand new Beetle to drive around in which they later also purchased, they found their 912 already wrapped up for shipping. They were able to drive it around Germany for another couple of weeks. The 912 was then a daily driver down in Southern CA up through the mid 70s when it was bumped into while parked. The rear deck lid was the only damage but the owner had the whole car gone through, stripped the paint, and had it resprayed in Polo Red. It then became a weekend driver and was in the family until we purchased it in October 2019.
